Only one sub-par round was posted at today's US Mid-Amateur Championship Qualifier at Big Spring Country Club and it came from one of the Kentucky contestants that travel the farthest to compete. Paducah's Joshua Rhodes finished with a one under par 71 to take the medalist award and to qualify for a trip to the national championship in New York.
Reigning Kentucky Open champion Andy Roberts was not in full control after 27 holes of the Kentucky Golf Association's Mid-Amateur Championship. But, Roberts buckled down the last 9 holes, carding a one-under-par 35, to post a round two score of 73.
Five Kentucky Junior Golfers to Participate in the Homecare & Hospice First Tee Open
The Homecare & Hospice First Tee Open, an official event on the Champions Tour, will take place September 3-5 at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey, California. Entering its seventh year, this unique event features junior golfers and amateur golfers competing side-by-side with Champions Tour players.
From The First Tee of Pine Mountain, Brandon Bisceglia, Michael Wison, and Lindsay Davis will compete. From The First Tee of Lexington, Will Bishop and Daniel DeLuca will compete. Kentucky's family of golf organizations sends best wishes to each of these junior golfers and congratulates them on earning this great honor.
Brian Belden was four shots behind the leader after the first round of the 2010 U.S. Amateur Championship Sectional Qualifier at Eagle Trace Golf Course but countered with a seven under par 65 to add to his opening 69 and took the qualifier by three shots. Belden will travel to Washington state and compete for the national championship.
